Rundown Of Week 1 Lines
With the NFL preseason slowly coming to a close, NFL betting handicappers are getting ready for the opening kickoff on September ninth. Here is a rundown of some of the big games in week one.

Thursday September 9th, 2010 Minnesota Vikings v. New Orleans Saints – What better way to kick off the 2010 regular season than a rematch of the 2009 NFC Championship game. NFL betting lines will be off the charts. Expect the odds to be considerably lower than any other game that week as more sports bettors will wager on this game than any other to open the week.

The two biggest favorites going into week one are the Chicago Bears and New York Giants over the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers respectively. Each squad is favored by a touchdown over their opponent.

Also, the 2010 week one lines may be the lowest in a number of years, as a large portion of teams are starting new quarterbacks. For instance, in the New York Giants vs. Carolina Panthers game, the Panthers will not only have one new quarterback but two. With Jake Delhomme leaving for Cleveland, the Panthers will now have Matt Moore as their starter with Jimmy Clausen as his backup.

Delhomme and the Browns on the other hand are two and a half point dogs at most sportsbooks against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To us this is a game we suggest taking the dog on as the Buccaneers do not look to have a good team this season.

Two other games that see a battle of new quarterbacks are the new look Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Atlanta Falcons and the St. Louis Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals. The Steelers will be without star quarter back Ben Roethlisberger who has been suspended for a month. This leaves the door open for the three other quarterbacks in Pittsburgh to battle it out for the number one spot. Falcons are favored by a field goal in this game.

The most interesting game of week one is the second new look quarterback game, St. Louis vs. Arizona. Both the Rams and Cardinals will have new starting pivots as many fans expect to see Sam Bradford the number one pick in this year’s draft, guide the Rams to greener pastures. Conversely, the Cardinals will be starting Matt Leinart as Kurt Warner retired this past offseason. Cardinals are a four point favorite against the Rams.

NFL Stadium Profile: A Look At The Frozen Tundra Of Lambeau

NFL betting players will tell you, when it comes to historic NFL venues, there’s not that compares to Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay Packers.

Lambeau Field took over a year to build (the NFL was going to move the team to Milwaukee if they didn’t improve the stadium), and opened in 1957. It was named after Curly Lambeau, whpo founded and owned the team, as well as played for the Packers. Lambeau Field is located on Lombardi Drive, named after the legendary Vince Lombardi, who led the Packers to wins in the first two Super Bowls. It was also the first stadium to be built specifically for a football team as most teams shared with a Major League Baseball team. The capacity is now 72,928 after various expansions, and it has also been used for NCAA hockey games as well.

Lambeau Field has been called the best stadium in terms of atmosphere in many polls, no team has been in an NFL venue as long as the Packers have been playing at Lambeau, and the fans are well known to be the best in football. Then there is the infamous “Lambeau Leap”, when a Packer (or multiple Packers) jumps into the crowd after scoring a touchdown.

Sure, it may be a little cold, but there’s no better place to watch a game than at Lambeau Field, and it’s given the Packers a great homefield advantage, as they’ve won 63% of their games there since their inception. That means, if you’re looking at Green Bay odds at Lambeau, chances are they’re going to be the online sports betting favorite.

Gilette Stadium Profile

NFL betting players know the importance of homefield advantage, and few teams have a bigger one than the New England Patriots do at Gillette Stadium, which is a far better venue than its predecessor.

The Patriots played all of their games from 1971 to 2001 at Foxboro Stadium, but it became clear that the stadium was out of touch with the more modern venues of the rest of the league. Gillette Stadium took almost two years to build, and it has a capacity of 68,756. They used grass at Gillette Stadium for the first four years of its existence from 2002 to 2006, but since then, they’ve installed FieldTurf.

Gillette Stadium isn’t just used by the Patriots, as the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer are also tenants there. The Patriots have hosted a number of important games there as they’ve built themselves into one of the dominant teams of the NFL, while the 2002 MLS Cup was also held here, and four games of the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup. It hosted the NCAA’s lacrosse championships in 2008 and 2009 and will do so again in 2002. Gillette Stadium is also in the running to be a venue if the United States win their bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022.

Gillette Stadium is a modern stadium, but it’s just small enough that fans can create a raucous atmosphere, and the Patriots love it (New England has won seven of their eight playoff games at Gillette Stadium, with the first loss coming last year to Baltimore). Any time they play at Gillette Stadium, look for the Patriots to be a betting favorite in your sports book.

Heinz Field Profile

NFL football betting fans have been enjoying Steelers games at Heinz Field since it was opened on August 24, 2001. Since 2001, Steelers NFL betting fans have seen their team win two Super Bowls, in 2005 and 2008. Heinz Field is located at 100 Art Rooney Ave, named after Pittsburgh Steelers legendary team president and family owner Art Rooney.

From 1970 to 2000, the Pittsburgh Steelers shared Three Rivers Stadium with MLB franchise the Pittsburgh Pirates. However during the late 1990s and up until Heinz Field was opened, plans were established for the Pirates to get a new baseball only based stadium. As a result, the Rooney Family owner of the Steelers wanted the city of Pittsburgh to fund a new stadium for the NFL squad.

Essentially the reasoning behind building Heinz Field is that the Steelers were the last team in the AFC North to be in their old stadium. As a result the argument was that if Heinz Field was not created, the Steelers would not be able to attract top stars to play for them in the ever tough division. In 2001, Heinz Food Company purchased the naming rights to the new stadium, and has a royalty’s agreement with the Steelers of over $57 million until 2021.

In 2005, the Steelers opted to go with rookie quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as their starter. The move paid off greatly, as Big Ben became one of only a handful of rookie quarterbacks to guide his team to a Super Bowl win in his first year. Yet the team would not return to the Promised Land until 2008 when Big Ben guided the Steelers to another Super Bowl victory. In both seasons the Steelers enjoyed much home success at Heinz Field.

NFL Venues – The New Meadowlands Stadium

NCAA football betting players who follow Rutgers would love to see their team in the New Meadowlands Stadium, which opens this season for NFL play.

The New Meadowlands has a capacity of 82,566, along with 10,005 club seats and around 200 boxes, which puts it behind only FedEx Field in Washington in terms of seating capacity. The New Meadowlands will play host to the New York Jets and Giants, who will play the first game there on Monday, August 16th. The Giants have the honor of playing the first regular-season game in history on September 12th against Carolina, while the Jets will play the next night on Monday Night Football against Baltimore.

But that isn’t all for the New Meadowlands, which will be used as a venue for the United States if their bid to host the World Cup in 2018 or 2022 is accepted. The NFL has also already awarded the 2014 Super Bowl to the New Meadowlands, making it the first time that the Super Bowl has been held in this area of the country, and also, it’ll be the first time that the Super Bowl will be played in the northeast in a stadium without a dome, meaning Super Bowl Sunday could be a bit chilly for the competitors that day.

The New Meadowlands is one of the most expensive stadiums ever built, and it can compete with the FedEx Fields and the Cowboys Stadiums of the NFL. The New York/New Jersey area has long deserved a better stadium, and you never know, it could give them a homefield advantage that affects their sports betting chances as well.
